How It Started

Ringtail Gear began on the water in Oak Creek Canyon, just north of Sedona, AZ. While fly fishing, our founder Jacob Garn realized his factory bag couldn't keep up with what he needed on the bank. Wanting key modifications, he picked up a sewing machine and altered the pack himself, a project that quickly turned into a complete ground-up redesign through relentless trial, error, and refinement.

What started as a single custom build became a passion for the craft. As friends saw the gear in action, Jacob began building for them, too. Over the next few years, he honed his skills by perfecting structural techniques, seam reinforcement, and tailored pattern making. Out of those years behind the machine, Ringtail Gear was officially born.

Behind the Name

The Brand takes its name from the Ringtail, Arizona's official state mammal, native to the red rock canyons of Sedona, AZ. It's a nod to a local creature that's built to thrive in harsh, rugged terrain — the exact standard behind everything we make.
